Typical Recovery Arc
"I know what it feels like to sit across from a laryngologist and feeling like your world has just ended. No singer should have to go through that alone."
In 2022, I was diagnosed with a vocal cyst and vocal nodule that required surgery, followed by months of speech therapy and singing-based voice rehabilitation. As a classically trained opera singer and voice pedagogue, I understood the clinical language better than most and it was still frightening, confusing, and isolating.
What I needed wasn't just a doctor and an SLP. I needed someone who could translate between the clinical world and the artistic one. Someone who understood both what the laryngologist was saying and what it meant for a performing singer whose entire identity and livelihood are tied to their voice.
That experience, combined with my Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy and graduate research in vocal rehabilitation, is why I created this service. I am here so no singer will go through this alone.
What Vocal Recovery Support Is
A knowledgeable ally in your corner
This is not clinical care. I am not your SLP or your laryngologist. I work alongside them, not instead of them. What I offer is something the clinical system rarely provides: a guide who understands both the medical process and the artistic stakes. Think of me as your doula throughout the healing process.
What I can do for you
- Help you understand your diagnosis in plain, singer-friendly language
- Translate clinical instructions into terms that make sense for your voice and your artistry
- Help you prepare questions for your SLP and laryngologist appointments
- Support you emotionally through voice rest, uncertainty, and the fear of not knowing when you'll sing again
- Help you communicate your artistic needs and performance timeline to your clinical team
- Guide you through a safe, informed return to singing after clinical discharge
- Be a consistent, knowledgeable presence from diagnosis through recovery
What makes this different
- I have lived this. As a performing singer who went through vocal surgery and rehabilitation firsthand
- I hold a Master's in Voice Performance and Pedagogy with graduate research focused on vocal rehabilitation
- I understand what "full recovery" means for a performer, not just a non-singing patient
- I speak both languages, clinical and artistic, and I can help each side understand the other
- I am available in person in Metro Detroit and virtually for singers anywhere
An Important Note
Vocal Recovery Support is advocacy and education, not clinical treatment. I do not diagnose, prescribe, or replace the work of your SLP or physician. I help you understand and navigate your clinical care — as a knowledgeable ally who has been through it herself.
Who This Is For
You don't have to navigate this alone
This service is designed for any singer who is facing a vocal injury and needs more support than the clinical system alone provides.
Newly Diagnosed or Mid-Recovery
You've just been told you have nodules, a cyst, hemorrhage, or muscle tension dysphonia, and you're scared, confused, and not sure what comes next. Or you're mid-recovery and struggling to stay patient, understand your progress, or communicate your needs to your care team.
Professional & Pre-Professional Singers
Your voice is your instrument and your livelihood. You need someone who understands what's actually at stake, not just medically, but artistically and professionally. Someone who can help you navigate recovery without losing more than you have to.
Students, Teachers & Hobbyists
Vocal injury isn't limited to professionals. Students, choir singers, music teachers, and anyone whose voice matters to them deserves support through this process. Whatever your level, you deserve to understand what's happening and feel less alone in it.
What to Expect
Support through every phase
First Session
Clarity & Foundation
We review your diagnosis together in plain language. I help you understand what your injury actually is, what may have caused it or lead to it, and what a typical recovery looks like for a singer specifically. We identify your fears and questions, set realistic expectations, and build a framework for working with your clinical team.
Throughout Recovery
Ongoing Check-ins
Every two weeks we connect to review how the clinical process is going. I help you interpret new information, prepare questions for upcoming appointments, and process the emotional weight of voice rest and restricted singing. You always have someone in your corner who understands both sides.
End of Recovery
Return to Singing
Clinical discharge and artistic readiness are not always the same thing. I help you understand what a safe, confident return to singing looks like. We will bridge the gap between your SLP and physician clearing you and you actually feeling ready to sing again at full capacity.
